Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin said Wednesday that Moscow has "firmly seized the initiative" on the battlefield in Ukraine and described Kyiv as facing ongoing problems.

Speaking at a press briefing in Termez, Galuzin said, "Problems have existed, continue to exist, and, apparently, will continue to exist for the Kyiv regime. Because if we look at the situation on the ground, the Russian armed forces are advancing on all fronts, and they firmly and confidently hold the strategic initiative."

He said peace talks over a Ukrainian settlement are currently "on pause" due to the US and Israeli attacks against Iran but stressed that Russia remains open to political and diplomatic solutions.

"The authorities in Kyiv must understand that the more time passes, the harsher the terms of a final settlement will be for them," Galuzin said, adding that the US is working to secure Kyiv's agreement to compromises Moscow has already accepted.

Galuzin also described the Middle East situation as "unprovoked aggression by the US and Israel against Iran," saying it has disrupted international trade and global energy security. He urged Russia and Central Asian countries to demonstrate unity amid escalating tensions and sanctions.

Criticizing Western actions toward Central Asia, Galuzin argued that special envoys attempting to collect data on Russia's trade and push sanctions show a disregard for the region's sovereignty.

On relations with Georgia, he said Moscow is ready to normalize ties "to the extent that Tbilisi is prepared," and expects cooperation in areas promising mutual benefit despite political challenges.
