The NATO-Ukraine Council on Wednesday welcomed Kyiv's presentation of its adapted Annual National Program (ANP) for 2024.

"The NATO-Ukraine Council welcomes Ukraine's presentation of its adapted Annual National Programme for 2024 and looks forward to its implementation," said a statement by the alliance following the first NATO-Ukraine Council meeting at the level of foreign ministers.

The statement said that Ukraine reaffirmed its commitment to continued democratic and security sector reforms, adding that it also provided Kyiv with recommendations for priority reforms.

"NATO Foreign Ministers will regularly assess progress through the adapted Annual National Programme. The Alliance will support Ukraine in making these reforms on its path towards future membership in NATO," the statement further said.

In a joint communique following NATO's Vilnius summit in July, the alliance said that Ukraine's process of Euro-Atlantic integration moved "beyond the need for the Membership Action Plan," adding that NATO foreign ministers will assess Kyiv's progress on future membership through the ANP.

The ANP is a document outlining future reforms to be taken by countries seeking NATO membership in line with the alliance's requirements.

On Tuesday, Ukraine's Commission for Coordination of Euro-Atlantic Integration approved the draft of the country's adapted ANP for next year, which it said took into account the situation surrounding the Russia-Ukraine war.
