Facebook approves Israeli advertisements explicitly calling for violence against Palestinians

Recent reports in U.S. media have revealed that Facebook approved a number of Israeli advertisements that explicitly advocated for violence against Palestinians. These advertisements, in both Hebrew and Arabic, directly called for the targeting of Palestinian civilians.

Since the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict, META, overtly conducting Israeli propaganda since the first day, imposed censorship on posts supporting Palestine on Facebook, one of its platforms. While it is known that Facebook and Instagram blocked messages supporting Palestine, a new scandal has shaken the agenda.

It has been revealed that Facebook approved a series of Israeli advertisements explicitly calling for violence against Palestinians. According to reports in the U.S. media, Facebook approved advertisements in both Hebrew and Arabic that directly called for the killing of Palestinian civilians.

Despite containing explicit calls for violence, these advertisements, which openly advocate genocide, were approved by the company. The ads use degrading language about Palestinian civilians, referring to Gaza children as "future terrorists." They also include insulting language directed at civilians.

Facebook, which prohibits even sharing the Palestinian flag, turned a blind eye to comparisons of the Palestinian people to "Arab pigs." It was revealed that these ads were prepared by the Palestinian social media research group 7amleh to expose Facebook's double standards. The "test ads" were prepared to prove Facebook's support for Israel.

Nadim Nashif, the founder of 7amleh, stated, "The approval of these ads is just the latest in a series of failures by Meta regarding the Palestinian people. Throughout this crisis, we have seen that Meta's blatant bias and discrimination against Palestinians continue."

7amleh's initiative came from an assassination ad placed on the site a few weeks ago. Ads calling for the assassination of a Palestinian human rights advocate were also featured on Facebook.

A few days ago, an advertisement calling for the assassination of American activist Paul Larudee, one of the founders of the Free Gaza Movement, was openly broadcast on Facebook. The ad, placed by Ad Kan, a right-wing Israeli group founded by former Israel Defense Forces and intelligence officers fighting against "anti-Israel organizations," used expressions such as "It's time to assassinate the anti-Semitic and 'human rights' terrorist Paul Larudi in the United States."

Despite violating Facebook's advertising rules by openly calling for the assassination of a political activist, the sponsored post from Ad Kan remained on the platform. The publication of this ad revealed that, despite these rules, Facebook had approved the advertisement. Following the publication of this ad, 7amleh's test experiment revealed Meta's use of secret algorithms in making content moderation decisions.
