An innovative ceramic product produced by an Istanbul-based company offers a radiation-free environment to consumers, a co-founder of the company said on Wednesday.

"Quantum -- this new product that we as Decovita have released on the market -- absorbs electromagnetic waves in an environment and repels bacteria [from its surface]," Selman Öztürk, who is a founding partner of Decovita Seramik, told Anadolu Agency.

Underlining that Quantum is the first in the world of its kind, Öztürk noted that it was made of nine rare-earth elements that emit beneficial rays to the environment.

"Decovita Quantum radiates far infrared rays. These rays revive and refresh the [human] body and increase its wellbeing," he said, adding that they were also used in the treatment of some illnesses.

According to Decovita's website, laboratory tests have confirmed that Quantum "offers 99.72 percent antibacterial protection."

The product also protects against 90 percent of the harmful effects of radiation, the website says.
