The powerful sister of North Korea's leader called South Korea "pathetic" Friday after Seoul demanded an apology over a demilitarised zone blast that severely wounded three of its soldiers.

South Korea "even went so far as to talk about some sort of 'apology,'" Kim Yo Jong, the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, said in a statement.

"They are utterly pathetic," she added.
