A Ukrainian soldier said tanks stationed in the front line near the eastern city of Avdiivka play an important role in keeping the country's defense line intact amid clashes with Russian forces.

"Of course, we hold the defense line thanks to the tanks. Tank and artillery systems are extremely important. Tank, artillery and infantry units all work in a coordinated manner," the soldier, codenamed Sanyok, told Anadolu.

Sanyok said that Russian forces have carried out "intense" attacks on the nearby city of Bakhmut since the end of last year, adding that the Russian army is now trying to besiege Avdiivka.

"There are clashes in the direction of Avdiivka as fierce as Bakhmut, perhaps more intense," Sanyok further said.

He also said that the Ukrainian army is fighting for the territorial integrity of the country and that it is ready to serve on the front line until the end.

Separately, a commander, codenamed Kasper, said that intense clashes are taking place in the region where he is assigned to.

"The tank is a very effective combat vehicle. Everyone is afraid of it. A tank can fire from a closed or open position," Kasper said, adding that tanks, artillery and other units are firing in a coordinated manner in order to repel Russian attacks.
