Kyrgyzstan's parliament on Wednesday announced that it adopted a bill on the ratification of an agreement signed between Kyrgyzstan and Russia on the creation of a joint regional air defense system.

A statement by the country's Supreme Council said that the bill on the creation of a joint regional air defense system was initiated by Akylbek Zhaparov, the head of the Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers, and adopted in three readings.

It further said that Kyrgyz Deputy Defense Minister Almazbek Karasartov gave a briefing about the bill during the parliamentary session.

"As Almazbek Karasartov noted … a land plot of 5 hectares is provided near the Russian airbase in Kant for the period of validity of the Agreement," the statement added.

In May, Russian President Vladimir Putin previously signed a bill ratifying the agreement signed in Moscow on Aug. 16, 2022.
