Turkey condemns 'heinous' terror attacks in Mali

Turkey on Tuesday condemned the recent terror attacks in Mali which left dozens of civilians dead.

"We are saddened to receive the news that more than 50 people lost their lives as a result of terrorist attacks targeting civilians in the Gao Region of Mali, on 8 August 2021," a Foreign Ministry statement said.

"We strongly condemn these heinous terrorist attacks, and extend our sincere condolences to the families of those who lost their lives, to the friendly and brotherly people and Government of Mali," it continued.

More than 50 people were killed over the weekend when armed assailants launched three simultaneous attacks in areas of northern Mali near the border with Niger.

The country declared three days of national mourning, while the Malian army launched an operation in the region to neutralize those responsible.
