Ten Turkish sailors who were kidnapped by gunmen in Nigeria, were released on Friday.

The 10 sailors were in good health, the Turkey's state-run news agency reported, without providing further details.

The Turkish-flagged ship came under attack on the evening of July 13 as it was sailing from Cameroon's Douala port to Abidjan port in Ivory Coast, the Turkish government had said in a statement.

The shipping company Kadıoğlu Denizcilik had said that 10 of the 18 Turks aboard the ship were kidnapped. Those taken included the captain and chief engineer. The remaining eight reached Ghana safely.

The Turkey-registered ship was not carrying any freight as it sailed from Cameroon to Ivory Coast, where it was to load timber and then head to Morocco.
