At least five people have been killed and seven others injured in an explosion in Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar province, an official said Sunday.

The explosives were placed on a motorcycle and detonated near a stadium in Jalalabad city, the capital of Nangarhar province, a spokesman for the governor said in a statement.

Attaullah Khugyani said authorities have yet to determine whether the blast was perpetrated by a suicide bomber.

No group has claimed responsibility for the incident, which took place while crowds rallied in the city in support of Afghan President Ashraf Ghani. Khugyani said the rally was not affected by the blast.

Two members of the Afghan security forces were killed and seven others injured in three back-to-back explosions close to a private radio and TV station in the city of Jalalabad on Saturday.
