A British opposition lawmaker who had been suspended while he faced an inquiry into allegations about his personal conduct has died, it was confirmed on Tuesday.

Labour's Carl Sargant, 49, was a minister in Wales's devolved government.

He had agreed to step down after a Friday meeting with Wales's First Minister Carwyn Jones. In a statement posted on Nov. 3, Sargant said he found the undisclosed allegations "shocking and distressing".

Sargant was reportedly found dead in his North Wales home. North Wales Police said they were not treating his death as suspicious.

Party leader Jeremy Corbyn said he was "deeply shocked" to hear of Sargant's death. "My thoughts and profound sympathy are with his family and friends," he added.
