Security measures are tight in the German city of cologne ahead of the first day of the anti-immigrant "alternative for Germany" party congress. Demonstrators staged a protest near a hotel in cologne where the ultra-nationalist party is holding a two-day convention. The protest was organized by the cologne against right-wing initiative.
Germany's police said that around 50,000 left-wing protestors are expected in the city and nearly 4,000 police officers are on the ground to prevent a violent escalation of anti-populist rallies.
Protesters injured one police officer while trying to block the hotel.
