Cardinal sex abuse scandal

Flanked by police and cameras, Cardinal George Pell arrived at an Australian court on Wednesday (July 26) for his first appearance before a judge on historical sex charges.

Inside, his case lasted just five minutes, his lawyer telling the court that pell would "plead not guilty to all charges".

But the specifics of those charges are is still unknown, as media requests for details were denied by the magistrate.

After a brief appearance, pell was once again escorted out by heavy security.

A committal hearing has been scheduled for October sixth.

The magistrate told pell's lawyers that they would receive a summary of the charges a month before.
