Mahya: Prominent Ramadan tradition

Ramadan, the holy month of fasting for Muslims, has a different atmosphere from the other months of the year.Being one of the prominent Ramadan traditions, Mahya is the name given to writing adorned with light.In preparation for Ramadan, mosques have been adorned with "Mahya", an illuminated message placed between two minarets during the holy month in Islamic countries.Mahyas are prepared with the aim of conveying messages through hadiths, verses and wise sayings from the Qoran.One of the mahya writings is a hadith from the Prophet Muhammad: "Fasting is the zakat of the body"."Hello oh month of Ramadan", "Welcome the sultan of eleven months" and "There is no god but Allah" are some of the most used mahya writings.Mahya is known to have been around since the 16th century.
