An elderly Turkish couple beat coronavirus after receiving treatment at home in the central Kirsehir province.

Hayri Albayrak, 96, and Fatma Albayrak, 87, recently contracted the novel virus from their son and daughter-in-law.

But the parents of three just followed the doctors' advice and regained health within 10 days, without hospitalization.

Dursun Albayrak told Anadolu Agency on Wednesday about the difficult time the family went through in the past few days.

Albayrak said he and his wife caught COVID-19 about a month ago, and the parents also tested positive afterwards.

But in order to avoid panic, they were told it is the usual seasonal influenza. "We did not tell them that they were infected with coronavirus," he said.

To contain the spread of the disease, Turkey has imposed nighttime and weekend curfews. It has also joined other countries in banning flights from the UK over a new virus strain said to be more transmissible.

Vaccinations for protection against COVID-19 have begun in the US, UK and other countries.
