A Turkish soldier, injured during a reconnaissance and surveillance activity in the southeastern border region, succumbed to his wounds, Turkey's National Defense Ministry said Wednesday.

Two Turkish soldiers on duty in the Yüksekova district of Hakkari province were injured on June 23 by "an harassment fire from Iranian direction", the ministry said in written statements on its website and Twitter.

Despite all medical interventions, Recep Durak could not be saved and succumbed to his wounds in a hospital, the ministry said.

"In this incident that overwhelmed us with deep pain and sadness, we wish Allah's mercy on our martyr, extend our condolences and wish patience to the mournful family, to the Turkish Armed Forces and to our noble nation, and wish the soonest recovery to our wounded personnel," it added.
