Over 3,000 FETO members jailed in 248 cases

Over 240 cases against the members of Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), the group behind defeated coup attempt in 2016, have been concluded by courts.

According to the information obtained by Anadolu Agency, following the defeated coup chief public prosecutors carried out over 100,000 investigations.

After the investigations were completed, 289 lawsuits were filed for making the coup plotters appear before judge. Some 248 cases of them are concluded, while 41 other cases are still ongoing.

In the concluded cases, 3,082 convicts were put behind bars.

Some 959 of them -- including 55 former generals, 618 military officers, 130 sergeants, 56 specialized sergeants and five police officers -- were handed aggravated life sentences.

Around 990 convicts -- including 13 former generals, 312 officers and 104 sergeants -- were given life sentences, while 1,133 others received prison sentences ranging from a year and two months to 20 years.

The FETO and Gulen orchestrated the defeated coup of July 15, 2016, which left 251 people martyred and nearly 2,200 injured.

Ankara also accuses FETO of being behind a long-running campaign to overthrow the state through the infiltration of Turkish institutions, particularly the military, police, and judiciary.
