Turkish army on Tuesday said it killed 11 PKK terrorists in the country's southeast.

According to a General Staff statement, eight PKK terrorists were killed in Dargecit district of Mardin province, who the army said were on the verge of planning an attack.

In addition, two machine gun positions were also destroyed in the airstrikes, said the army.

Another airstrike killed three terrorists in Hakkari province, it added.

The PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- resumed its armed campaign against Turkey in July 2015.

Since then, it has been responsible for the deaths of some 1,200 Turkish security personnel and civilians, including a number of women and children.
