Juventus midfielder Nicolo Fagioli is being investigated for alleged illegal betting activities, Italian legal sources said Wednesday.

"I confirm the news of the investigation," Turin Chief Prosecutor Enrica Gabetta said in an emailed statement, while the Italian daily La Stampa said that Fagioli, 22, is involved in a criminal probe against users of illegal online betting platforms and other suspects.

Turin is former Italian champions Juventus' home city.

In Italy, a football player who is found to have bet on football matches can be banned for at least three years.

After a loan spell at Cremonese in the 2021-22 season, Fagioli became a key player at Juventus last season.

This season, he played six matches in the Italian Serie A division.

Fagioli earned one cap for Italy in a 2022 friendly against Albania.
