RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita has been charged with forgery of documents by local prosecutors in connection with his driving licence, the Bundesliga club confirmed on Saturday.

Guinea's Keita is accused to have presented a forged licence twice as he attempted to get a German driving licence.

The Bild paper on Friday quoted a court spokesman as saying both documents were complete fakes and that the midfielder faced a six-digit euros (dollars) fine. He reportedly also faces proceedings for driving without a licence.

A Leipzig spokesman said they were aware of the issue and that they believed after talks that the documents were genuine.

Keita, 22, joined Leipzig in 2016 and will move on to Liverpool next summer for around 70 million euros (81.5 million dollars).
