The PKK/PYD terrorist group has seized control of Syria's largest oil field, according to local sources.

Backed by U.S.-led coalition warplanes, PKK/PYD militants captured the Al-Omar oil field in the eastern province of Deir ez-Zor after the Daesh terrorist group withdrew from it, the sources said Sunday on condition of anonymity due to security concerns.

According to the sources, the PKK/PYD took control of the oil field before regime forces, which are three kilometers (some two miles) away from the field.

The PKK/PYD has sent hundreds of troops from the northern province of Raqqah to participate in a military operation that began earlier last month in Deir ez-Zor.

On Sept. 23, PKK/PYD controlled Kuniko, Syria's the largest gas producer company. It has also captured the Jafra oil field earlier this month.

Deir ez-Zor is Syria's richest oil region as it contains about 40 percent of the country's oil.
