Turkey's prime minister on Sunday once again slammed U.S. President Donald Trump's "miscalculation" in deciding to recognize Jerusalem as Israeli's capital.

"Those who miscalculate on Jerusalem in this region will eventually regret it," said Binali Yıldırım, addressing the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party's provincial congress in Turkey's central Anatolian province of Çankırı.

Yıldırım's comments came a day after he reiterated his support for Palestine in the wake of a Muslim bloc meeting in Istanbul this week recognizing East Jerusalem as Palestine's capital.

On Dec. 6, Trump announced his decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital, sparking angry demonstrations in many Muslim countries and worldwide condemnation.

Rebuffing the move, an extraordinary Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) summit in Istanbul this week declared East Jerusalem to be Palestine's capital.

Jerusalem remains at the heart of the Israel-Palestine conflict, with Palestinians hoping that East Jerusalem -- now occupied by Israel -- might eventually serve as the capital of a Palestinian state.
