As part of the evacuation from the war-torn Syrian city of Aleppo, 182 severely injured civilians were brought to Turkey's southern province of Hatay, Turkish authorities said.

The civilians were evacuated and transported to Idlib, another Syrian city under opposition control.

Those who were in critical condition were sent to hospitals in Hatay, according to the Turkish Prime Ministry Binali Yıldırım.

Fifteen people could not be saved. Eighty of the 182 were transferred to other Turkish cities, where 23 were discharged.

Seventy-one were children.

Last week, Syrian opposition forces and the regime reached a cease-fire deal, brokered by Turkey and Russia, to evacuate civilians from eastern Aleppo to safe areas in opposition-held Idlib.

So far, 40,000 people have been evacuated from the area, Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim announced earlier on Thursday.
