More than 1,000 environmentalists blocked roads in Germany's capital on Monday, demanding action on climate change.
Extinction Rebellion activists gathered at Berlin's historical Victory Column in the early hours of the day and staged a sit-in on the major traffic artery.
Activists said in a statement that ecosystems worldwide were about to collapse due to climate breakdown and species extinction.
"There is not much time left to stop the destruction of our livelihoods. If we fail, our future and that of our children and grandchildren will be suffering, hunger, fight and death," they said.
"Governments of the world have been inactive for decades, even though they know the facts. Together we have to make them act now," activists added.
The group vowed to continue radical protests and acts of civil disobedience in central Berlin at least for the whole week.
