An Egyptian security delegation arrived in Gaza City on Monday to hold talks with Palestinian officials.
Delegation members hope to follow up on the implementation of an Egypt-sponsored Palestinian reconciliation agreement signed last month in Cairo, a Palestinian security source told Anadolu Agency on condition of anonymity due to the issue's sensitivity.
Earlier Monday, Khalil al-Hayya, a leading Hamas member, told reporters that Egyptian officials had agreed last week to dispatch a delegation from Egypt's General Intelligence Directorate to the blockaded Gaza Strip.
According to al-Hayya, the delegation is tasked with "supervising" implementation of last month's reconciliation agreement between Hamas -- which has governed the Gaza Strip since 2007 -- and rival Palestinian faction Fatah.
On Oct. 12, Palestine's two leading political movements signed a landmark reconciliation agreement in Cairo aimed at resolving a decade of bitter political division.
