Arab countries report more deaths from COVID-19

Health authorities in four Arab countries confirmed more fatalities from the novel coronavirus as the region continues to battle the pandemic.

EGYPT

The virus claimed 24 more lives in Egypt, according to the country's Health Ministry.

The country's death toll from COVID-19 reached 4,912, while the number of cases now stands at 94,752, including 45,569 recoveries.

KUWAIT

Kuwaiti Health Ministry said four more deaths and 465 new infections were recorded over the past 24 hours.

The total number of cases in the Gulf state rose to 68,774, including 465 deaths and 60,326 recoveries.

YEMEN

Seven more coronavirus deaths and 26 new cases were reported in Yemen, according to a statement by the National Committee for the Fight Against the Coronavirus.

The death toll reached 506, and the number of cases hit 1,760.

QATAR

No new deaths were reported in the Gulf state, but the Health Ministry registered 216 new cases.

A ministry statement said the total number of cases in the country rose to 111,538, including 177 deaths and 108,254 recoveries.

WORLDWIDE

The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed more than 700,600 lives in at least 188 countries and regions since emerging in Wuhan, China last December.

Over 18.54 million cases have been reported worldwide, with the US, Brazil, India and Russia currently the hardest-hit countries, according to figures compiled by US-based Johns Hopkins University.

The data shows more than half of all patients-over 11.14 million-have recovered so far.
