Trump on Democratic congresswomen: 'If you are not happy in the US, you can leave'

President Donald Trump stepped up his attacks on four progressive Democratic congresswomen on Monday, saying if they're not happy in the United States "they can leave." "All they do is complain. These are people that hate our country. They hate it, I think, with a passion. If you're not happy here, you can leave," Trump told reporters at a "Made in America" event at the White House.

U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday defended his attacks against four Democratic congresswomen, saying he was not concerned if people thought his tweets toward them were racist and accused the U.S. lawmakers of hating America.

"As far as I'm concerned if you hate our country, if you're not happy here, you can leave," Trump said at a "Made in America" event at the White House.

Trump also accused the four Democratic congresswomen, all of whom are women of color, of having "love" for US "enemies like Al-Qaeda."

Trump was responding to furor over his weekend tweets saying that four Democratic congresswomen of color should go back to the "broken and crime infested" countries they came from.

That's despite the fact that all of the women are American citizens and three were born in the U.S.

Democrats condemned Trump's tweets as racist and divisive.

But Trump says that "a lot of people love" what he said.
