Turkey is the "most important" actor in Syria, said Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu Wednesday.

"For the solution of the problem in Syria, we have to work with everyone, all actors," Çavuşoğlu told an Ankara event gathering foreign students studying in Turkey.

"We are the most important actor," said Çavuşoğlu, referring to those in Syria.

The solution efforts for the Syria crisis includes the establishment of a constitutional commission, the peace talks being held in Geneva, Astana and Sochi, ensuring ceasefire in northwestern Idlib province, Çavuşoğlu said.

He added the voluntary return of the refugees to the terror-free areas after Turkey's counter-terrorism operations should also be part of the efforts for Syria peace.

Syria has been locked in a vicious civil war since early 2011, when the Bashar al-Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests.

Since then, hundreds of thousands of people have been killed and more than 10 million others displaced, according to UN officials.
