Turkish taxi driver hailed as hero in Sweden

Ömer Temel, a Turkish taxi driver in Sweden, was hailed as a hero by both Swedish and Turkish people for giving his personal credit card to a customer who had forgotten their wallet while heading to the airport for three-days business trip to Germany.

A Turkish-born taxi driver in Sweden was awarded by his company on Thursday for lending his credit card to a customer who forgot their own while trying to catch a flight at the airport.

The company, Taxi Kurir, awarded Ömer Temel with 13,000 Swedish krona ($1,360) for his "heroic" action.

"We are proud to work with Ömer," said Sadegh Banaie, assistant general manager for Taxi Kurir.

"I got this award on behalf of the Turkish nation," said Ömer Temel to Anadolu Agency after the ceremony.

"I would like to continue to represent my country and people in the best way possible," he added.

Last week, Temel made headlines in Sweden for giving his personal credit card to a customer who had forgotten their wallet while heading to the airport for three-days business trip to Germany.

Temel was hailed as a hero for his action and hailed by both Swedish and Turkish people.
