Dozens of Israeli settlers and policemen on Wednesday forced their way into Jerusalem's Al-Aqsa Mosque, according to Palestinian officials.

"Fifty settlers and about 250 Jewish students and religious figures stormed the mosque on Wednesday morning," Firas al-Dibs, a spokesman for Jerusalem's Religious Affairs Directorate, told Anadolu Agency.

Another incursion occurred in the afternoon, he added, when about 20 settlers and 40 policemen stormed the iconic mosque.

Israel occupied East Jerusalem, in which the Al-Aqsa is located, during the 1967 Arab-Israeli War. It annexed the entire city in 1980 in a move never recognized by the international community.
