Sex scandal rocks Israel’s justice system - Haaretz report

According to the latest news published in Israeli daily Haaretz, a senior figure in the justice system has been detained by Israeli police due to appointing a female judge to a magistrate court for sexual benefits. Security forces have launched a probe into the the incident after obtaining information about it, and saying the sex scandal has reached all the way to the Israeli Justice Ministry, Supreme Court and attorney general.

Israeli police arrested a lawyer on suspicion of promoting judges for sexual benefits, Israeli daily Haaretz reported on Wednesday.

The newspaper said the lawyer, a senior figure in Israel's justice system, acted to appoint a female judge to a magistrate court as well as another judge.

The sex scandal is believed to have reached all the way to the Israeli Justice Ministry, Supreme Court and attorney general.

Israeli police said it has launched an investigation into the scandal after obtaining new information about it.

Police raided the offices of the Israeli Bar Association and the lawyer's home as part of the probe.

Israel's chief justice and justice ministers are expected to be questioned over the scandal.

Israeli authorities have issued a gag order on the case.
