Turkey's IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation distributes iftar (fast-breaking meals) to 50,000 Syrians every day in the holy month of Ramadan, it said Saturday.

Selim Tosun, IHH's media advisor in Syria, said the meals are arranged in rural areas and refugee camps in the Syrian provinces of Idlib, Aleppo, Hama, and Latakia.

"We organize collective iftar programs in various regions of Syria. Besides, we distribute hot meals to 50,000 people per day from our kitchens and mobile food banks [in Syria]," he said, adding that Ramadan support is also being extended to people in Afrin, northwestern Syria, where the Turkish military wiped out YPG/PKK and Daesh terrorists.

Turkey on Jan. 20 launched Operation Olive Branch to remove YPG/PKK and Daesh terrorists from Afrin. On March 18, Turkish troops and Free Syrian Army members liberated the town of Afrin, on the 58th day of the operation.

Syria has been locked in a vicious civil war since early 2011 when the Assad regime cracked down on pro-democracy protests with unexpected ferocity.
