The freezing weather will not bring snowfall for Istanbul, according to the Meteorological Agency, which also said the precipitation of the recent days would end over the weekend.

Ahmet Kocaman from the Meteorological Agency's Istanbul bureau said strong winds approaching speeds of 50 kilometers per hour would continue today and tomorrow, as will the cold weather.

"We expect temperatures to remain around 1.2 degrees Celsius at night and 4.5 degrees during the day. In the northern approaches to the city and at higher elevations we expect some snowfall, but nothing in the Istanbul region. There may be some snow in Sakarya, Kocaeli, and the western Black Sea regions to the east."

He said apart from Istanbul and the coastal areas of the Aegean Sea, snowfall was expected throughout the country.

Starting from Friday, temperatures in Istanbul will increase and the rainfall will stop.

However, strong winds are expected to last for the rest of the month. The Meteorological Agency announced that between Jan. 23 and Jan. 29, temperatures for the entire country are expected to be between 5 to 9 degrees Celsius, lower than seasonal averages.
