A Palestinian man has succumbed to his wounds sustained in clashes with Israeli forces along the border between Gaza Strip and Israel last week, according to the Palestinian Health Ministry on Saturday.

Sherif al-Abd Shalash, 28, was injured last Sunday during rallies denouncing U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital.

"He died of his wounds on Saturday," Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra told Anadolu Agency.

On Friday, two Palestinians were martyred in clashes with Israeli forces in the West Bank and Gaza Strip as parts of protests against Trump's decision.

On Dec. 6, Trump officially recognized Jerusalem as Israel's capital despite worldwide opposition. The decision has sparked angry demonstrations across the Muslim world. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and other top Turkish officials have been at the international forefront opposing the U.S. move.

On Thursday, the UN General Assembly overwhelmingly passed a resolution against Trump's Jerusalem decision by a vote of 128-9.
