Germany has warned Monday that it was still too early to celebrate a full and definitive victory over the terrorist Daesh group in Iraq and Syria.

"The IS remains a significant asymmetrical threat," German Foreign Ministry deputy spokesman Rainer Breul told a press conference in Berlin, referring to the terrorist group by an alternative acronym.

"We have not yet achieved a permanent victory. We must continue our sustained commitment with our partners," he added.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi announced Saturday that the war against Daesh was over and that Iraqi forces now in full control of Iraq's border with Syria.

He underlined that while Daesh had lost all of the territories it controlled, it still posed a serious terrorist threat in both Iraq and Syria.

Breul said Germany would continue its military engagement as a member of the global anti-Daesh coalition.
