President Sergio Mattarella started Wednesday sounding out political leaders on the resolution of Italy's latest government crisis.
The crisis was formalized on Tuesday with the resignation of Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte after a bitter falling-out with deputy premier and far-right leader Matteo Salvini.
