France efforts to mediate the diplomatıc rift between Gulf countries

French Foreign Minister Jean-YVes le Drian met with his Saudi counterpart Adel Jubeir and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah after a visit in Qatar, to help to mediate the diplomatic rift and trade embargo between Qatar and other Middle East countries.

At a joint press briefing with the Saudi Foreign Minister, le Drian called for unity within the Gulf Cooperation Council (gcc), and a settlement among Gulf countries.

The minister said Saudi Arabia has provided relevant evidence to the United States and would offer similar evidence to France.

Le Drian started his two-day visit to the Middle East on saturday. He visited Qatar and Saudi Arabia. The United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and other visits are on his agenda.

Germany and the United States have also made shuttle diplomacy visits to the Middle East, but none has made any breakthrough.

The dispute began last month when Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt cut off diplomatic ties with Qatar on june 5th and imposed a trade embargo, accusing Qatar of "supporting terrorism and interfering in their internal affairs.
