Turkey will always support Palestine, which is going through difficult times, and also contribute to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), the country's foreign minister said Thursday.

Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, who is in New York for the 74th UN General Assembly, attended the ministerial meeting of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee, the international donor group for Palestine, which was hosted by Norway.

"At meeting of @UNRWA In #UNGA74, emphasized that international community should support #UNRWA politically and financially. #Turkey will continue to support our Palestinian brothers&sisters going through tough times and also contribute to UNRWA that supports #Palestine refugees," Çavuşoğlu said in a tweet.

"Attended Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee in #UNGA74. Emphasized that the economic development of #Palestine is necessary for a just and lasting peace. #Turkey's strong support to Palestine will always continue," he said in another tweet.

The Israeli army carries out frequent arrest campaigns across the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem, on the pretext of searching for "wanted" Palestinians.

According to Palestinian figures, roughly 5,700 Palestinians -- including women and children -- are currently languishing in Israeli detention facilities.
