At least seven people, including four policemen, were killed and 24 injured in twin terrorist attacks, including a suicide bombing in northwestern Pakistan on Sunday morning, police and local media reported.

In the first incident, gunmen opened fire at a police checkpoint in Dera Ismail Khan district of northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhawa (KP) province, which borders neighbouring Afghanistan, killing two policemen, city police chief, Saleem Riaz told reporters.

Half an hour after, a suspected woman bomber detonated herself outside a government hospital where the victims of the gun attack were taken, the police official said.

Five people, including two police personnel, were killed and 24 others were injured in the suicide bombing, Riaz said.

Dera Ismail Khan- located some 176 miles from capital Islamabad- which sits near restive South Waziristan border region, has long been target of terrorist attacks since 2004.

The attacks took place a day after landmark elections in seven troubled tribal regions- now districts.
