A Turkish court Thursday slapped a suspect with over 18-year jail term for Daesh terror group membership, a judicial source said.

In southeastern Şanlıurfa province, Heavy Penal Court No. 6 sentenced Iraqi national Kefah Basheer Hussain to 18-years-and-eight-months in jail.

He -- an alleged Daesh "health emir" -- was charged with terror group membership, source said.

Hussain was arrested on Jan. 23 in Şanlıurfa in a police operation against Daesh.

Separately, police arrested two Daesh suspects in northern Samsun province, security sources said.

Counter-terror teams carried out simultaneous operations in Ilkadım district to arrest the Iraqi nationals for suspected links to the Daesh, it added.

They also seized illegal documents, books and digital materials during the raids.

Security forces have been involved in a long-running campaign to clear Daesh terrorists from Turkey.

More than 300 people lost their lives in Daesh-claimed attacks in Turkey, where the terror organization has targeted civilians in suicide bomb, rocket, and gun attacks in recent years.
