Marriage registration offices across Turkey have been swarming with couples on Wednesday to tie the knot on easily-memorable date of 08/08/2018.
For years, the couples have been getting married on such days, with some thinking it is a special day and it would bring good luck.
Most couples have said that they had to book the wedding day months in advance.
İsmail Çürük, a registrar of marriage in central Çankırı province, told reporters that they were performing wedding ceremonies three times as much as they do on a regular day, and the couples had been applying since April.
In the northwestern provinces of Edirne, Kırklareli, and Tekirdağ, a total of 36 couples got married.
Melek Kılıç, a bride in Edirne, said, "The date of 08.08.2018 sounded very harmonious to us [...] I am very happy and excited."
Bülent Karagün, a groom in Tekirdağ, said he hoped their marriage would be as harmonious as the date itself.
184 couples tied the knot in Kahramanmaraş and Malatya provinces, 60 in Bolu province, while 107 in Bursa.
A total of 14 couples in Nigde province received gifts of a Turkish flag and an authentic Turkish coffee cup set from their municipality head Rıfat Özkan.
