Turkish prosecutors have launched an investigation into the main opposition party leader for insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, a judicial source said on Wednesday.

Prosecutors in the capital Ankara launched the probe over remarks this Tuesday by Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, head of the Republican People's Party (CHP), during a speech at a women's rights event, said the sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on speaking to the media.

Hüseyin Aydın, Erdoğan's lawyer, has also filed a lawsuit against Kılıçdaroğlu accusing him "insulting the president" in the speech.
