Five Daesh terrorists were killed and eight were detained in an anti-terror operation in central Turkey on Wednesday, officials said.

The operation in central Konya province's Meram district also left four police officers injured, according to a statement from Konya governor's office.

The officers were hospitalized, the statement said, adding preventive security measures were taken on roads leading to a military base in the district.

Police also recovered three kilograms of TNT explosives and an explosive vest during the operation.

Turkey has suffered from a number of attacks by Daesh, including the Ankara train station bombing in October in 2015 that killed more than 100.

Nearly 190 suspects linked to Daesh were arrested in counterterrorism operations across Turkey last month, according to information from security officials.

An Anadolu Agency analysis of security announcements showed that 20 of 188 Daesh suspects -- including foreigners -- were remanded in custody to face trial on a variety of charges.
