92 PKK terrorists, including senior figure killed in a week, Turkish military says

At least 92 PKK terrorists including a senior figure have been killed in anti-terror operations in Turkey's southeast in a week, the military said in a statement Friday.

According to the statement, the operations were carried out between May 25 and June 1, 2017, and focused on the weapons, hideouts and other tools used by the terrorists.

The military's determined anti-terror operations targeted the PKK in Şırnak's Beytüşşebap and Merkez districts, Hakkari's Yüksekove district, Diyarbakır's Lice district, as well as various districts in Bingöl, Elazığ, Erzurum, Ardahan, Hatay, Osmaniye and Gaziantep provinces.

A senior figure, who is allegedly responsible for the terrorist group's operations in Tunceli's Ovacık district and is a Syrian national, was killed during the operations.

Meanwhile, the military confiscated two antitank missiles, four mortars, 11 rocket launchers, 61 infantry rifles, four handguns and 64 hand grenades.

The military also destroyed 11 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), and seized 2,000 kilograms of ammonium nitrate, and ammunition used in mortars, rocket launchers and weapons.

Fifty-five hideouts, including shelters, caves and storage used by the terrorists have also been destroyed in the operations.

Turkish security forces also targeted narcotics activities of the PKK, which provide significant funding for the terrorist group, confiscating 304,500 pieces of hemp roots, 224 kilograms of powdered marijuana and 98,822 packages of smuggled cigarettes.

Meanwhile, Turkish border patrol prevented the illegal crossing of 8,138 people as part of stricter controls to prevent the flow of terrorists.
