Galatasaray closing gap on leader Başakşehir

Reigning champions Galatasaray cut the deficit with the leader Medipol Başakşehir to six points with Sunday's win at Turkey's top football league.

On Sunday, Galatasaray defeated Trabzonspor 3-1 to narrow the gap on Başakşehir as the leader drew Erzurumspor 1-1 in the Week 21 of Spor Toto Super Lig.

Medipol Başakşehir saved 45 points and continue to lead the league while the runner-up Galatasaray had 39 points.

Başakşehir had a clean start to the second half of Turkish league with three wins in a row until they dropped their first points this week.

Meanwhile, Fenerbahçe was defeated by Istikbal Mobilya Kayserispor 1-0 on Friday. The struggling Yellow Canaries have been suffering the worst season in their history, with only five wins in 21 outings.

Fenerbahçe are now in 14th place, only six points from the bottom of the league, and a distant 22 points away from the top spot.

On Saturday, Beşiktaş beat Bursaspor 2-0. They are in third place with 36 points.

On Monday, MKE Ankaragücü will host Kasımpaşa in the capital Ankara at 1700GMT, while Akhisarspor will face Demir Grup Sivasspor in an away match in cental Turkey at 1700GMT.
