Galatasaray slams Gençlerbirliği in Istanbul

A full force Galatasaray team defeated Gençlerbirliği, 5-1, in the Turkish Super Lig's 11th week match at the Istanbul Turk Telekom Stadium on Friday evening.

Leaders "CimBom" started the match attacking, finding the opening goal in the 7th minute when Bafetimbi Gomis saw Mariano Ferreira cutting full-back on the right wing, who calmly finished inside the six yard box.

Another defender increased the lead to 2-0 in the 43rd minute for Galatasaray; this time Younes Belhanda's cross met with Maicon Pereira's head, who smashed it home.

In the second half, the Galatasaray show continued as they quickly scored two goals inside the first five minutes.

Younes Belhanda's second assist of the night found Bafetimbi Gomis, who rolled the ball inside for an easy finish in the 46th minute.

The goals just kept on coming, this time striker Eren Derdiyok teed up Tolga Ciğerci, who smashed the ball into the net from close range in the 50th minute to make it 4-0 in favor of Galatasaray.

Gomis scored another goal from the penalty in the 81st minute, improving his goal tally to 11 in 11 appearances.

Gençlerbirliği found a goal in the 84th minute from Montenegrin midfielder Aleksandar Scekic, whose header beat goalkeeper Fernando Muslera.

Gomis and Ciğerci's combined goals have increased to 17 now, better than the 10 teams in the league as of Friday.

Lions, with the victory, increased the points total to 26 and continue to lead the league.
