Borussia Dortmund parted company Tuesday with coach Thomas Tuchel, three days after winning the German Cup, their first title in five years.

Tuchel confirmed via Twitter he was leaving the club.

"I am grateful for two beautiful, eventful and exciting years. A pity it is not continuing," he posted in German.

According to Bild.de, he will receive compensation of 2.9 million euros (3.2 million dollars).

Tuchel, 43, took over the Dortmund coaching job from the 2015-2016 season, succeeding Juergen Klopp, with a contract until the end of June 2018.

However, despite a season in which the team also finished third to qualify for the Champions League, he was widely reported to have fallen out with the club's management including chief executive Hans-Joachim Waztzke.
