The Israeli army carried out raids across the occupied West Bank late Wednesday night, during which at least 13 Palestinians were detained.

In a Thursday statement, the army said the 13 had been detained for "suspected involvement in popular hostile activities".

It did not elaborate on the nature of said "hostile activities".

The Israeli army frequently conducts wide-ranging arrest campaigns across the West Bank -- including occupied East Jerusalem -- on the pretext of searching for "wanted" Palestinians.

According to Palestinian figures, some 5,700 Palestinians -- including numerous women and children -- are currently languishing in Israeli detention facilities.
