A car bomb attack left at least two civilians dead and 20 others injured Wednesday in the northern Syrian border town of Azaz, which is controlled by the Turkish-backed Free Syrian Army (FSA).

The explosion struck near a local hospital in the town, it said.

Rescuers from the White Helmets and the Turkish Humanitarian Relief Foundation (IHH) rushed to the scene of the attack to search for survivors.

Several buildings, including a primary school, were affected by the bombing.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.

Syria has only just begun to emerge from a devastating conflict that began in 2011 when the Bashar al-Assad regime cracked down on demonstrators with unexpected ferocity.
