Turkish army "neutralized" 9 PKK terrorists during anti-terror operations in southeastern Turkey and northern Iraq, the military said on Friday.

Turkish authorities often use the word "neutralized" in their statements to imply the terrorists in question either surrendered or were killed or captured.

At least four PKK terrorists were neutralized in an air operation on Turkey's Hakkari province, the General Staff said on its official Twitter account.

In an early Friday tweet, the military said Turkish airstrikes neutralized five PKK terrorists in Iraq's Hakurk region.

In its more than 30-year terrorist campaign against Turkey, the PKK -- listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S. and the EU -- has been responsible for the deaths of nearly 40,000 people.
